-This article showed that even though the University of Virginia had been tainted with the hatred and violence of white supremacists, students gathered to demonstrate a peaceful and moving unity against the Neo Nazis. People had been injured during the previous protests, one woman even died, and the people of Charlottesville stood together without yelling hate words, but instead singing peaceful songs and hymns. -Countless times in Hollywood do white actors get casted as characters who were originally another race. In this article, a white man was casted to play an Asian character. In the past, audiences would let it go, but as society moves towards greater equality and representation, we are beginning to call out all the whitewashing and misrepresentation of our cultures. -Trump has decided to end DACA, which protects young undocumented immigrants from deportation. This is significant because thousands of kids in America who are undocumented were raised here and only have America to call home. Deporting them just because of their misfortune of being undocumented is unfair and cruel. Since it was the president who decided to end DACA, many of his followers will follow suit and support this, becoming more cruel to immigrants and especially undocumented immigrants. Media Analysis 4
-Dreamers were raised in this country like normal American citizens yet do not reap the full benefits of the average citizens like financial aid when they attend college. The DACA program keeps them from becoming deported but does not keep the racial and financial tensions out of their lives. Congress is to decide what comes of the Dreamers, and hopefully they make the right decision. Media Analysis 5
-This article was about a LGBTQ doctoral female student at GA Tech who was shot by a campus cop at night. She was believed to have a mental disorder, which calls into question if this was a discriminatory or hate based crime. Some students think of this to have been an accident while others see it as purposeful. Mental disorders do not get taken seriously by most, which has been a growing problem. People with mental disorders are ignored and deemed as weird instead of needing help. Media Analysis 6
-Many are outraged at the football players who have been kneeling during the national anthem at the games. They claim that the players who kneel are disrespecting the military and veterans. A daughter of a deceased American solider wrote this article and does not think the players were disrespecting the military, but they were protesting the inequality that our nation faces. What's more surprising is Trump's rage at the nonviolent football players, and his calm and somewhat supportive attitude towards the neo-nazis. Media Analysis 7
-This article showed that a white supremacist was verified on Twitter and the backlash that Twitter received because of it. Becoming verified on Twitter is something that celebrities and well known individuals get. For a white supremacist to become verified is acknowledging his fame and what he is famous for, and also celebrating it with a verification. Others who contribute positive things to the world and to twitter are not verified, which shows the ugliness of the verification of this man. Media Analysis 8
-Sexual abuse is a major problem and crimes and victims have recently been surfacing regarding the media and sports. Girls are put in difficult positions when faced with overpowering and dominant males who demand sexual acts from the girls. If they refuse they face humiliation and loss of jobs. Lots of woman are laughed upon or not believed when they say their accusations and that also plays into part of why lots of women choose to stay quiet. Media Analysis 9
-Some people will somehow find a way to blame immigrants and minorities for things. Even a forrest fire. Since the colonization of America, whites have treated all other races with hate and negligence. When whites commit a crime it is not looked upon, but when an immigrant or minority commit a crime it is seen as a terrible an unruly act. The forrest fire in California is very tragic and I had not even heard of it on social media until it was said to be caused by an immigrant. That is the only way I have seen news on this event. -The founder of the #MeToo program had created the program 10 years ago but has recently gotten popular due to the Hollywood scandals that are surfacing now. Though only some of the accused men have been fired, barely any of them are getting criminally charged. The founder of #MeToo now says that it is time to prevent this kind of behavior from happening again in Hollywood and in the world. People need to take rape and sexual abuse seriously instead of making jokes. People also need to be cautious of their jokes and behavior around others and be respectful. Media Analysis 11
-The Las Vegas shooting was not seen as terrorism even though over 50 people were killed and hundreds were injured, and the Manhattan shooter was seen as a terrorist and a mass shooter just because he was Muslim and said Islamic words before committing the evil act. This shows the ignorance and prejudice of Americans towards White men and Muslim men. Muslims are always deemed as terrorists and whites are never seen as guilty as a Muslim. Media Analysis 12
-Danica Roem will become the first transgender person to be elected and serving in Virginia legislature. This is a major feat for all those who are part of the LGBTQ community as it is showing the progressiveness of the country. Though we still have some way to go, this is a start. Media Analysis 13
-A baker who is homophobic does not want to create a wedding cake for a homosexual couple who are getting marred. He said it is against the first amendment to be forced to create the cake for them. This shows the unaccepting and discriminatory citizens of America and how some are so caught up in the hate that they let it come in between their job. Media Analysis 14
-The hatred of trans citizens has always been relevant and a part of our society. Transgender individuals are given hate, death threats, are bullied, neglected by family, and most severely, are subject to violence and death. Trans murders are happening all the time but do not make it to the the news most of the time because they are not seen as the ideal person. This is a very sad and true fact of America and of the world.
